In the north of Leicestershire, just off of Junction 22 of the busy M1, you will find the strangest of Service Stations, abandoned and left derelict now for some 6 years although the petrol station remained open until 2020, the site is now totally closed and provides a unique photo opportunity.
The sites stands as a testament to the power of mother nature and her ability to reclaim her environment.
The site now looks more like a scene from The Walking Dead, and just waiting for the addition of some strategically placed Walkers...
The way that even the Children's Playground has become so overgrown that all that remains to be seen is the top level and roof of the Climbing Frame. Even the kerbs at the edge of the car park have disappeared into the undergrowth.
Slowly but surely over the last 6 years, nature has regained a strong foothold, even the paving and paths have now succumbed to the growth of not only weeds and grass, but even some well established bushes that appear to be swallowing up the old BT telephone box.
I am planning to make another visit to the site on a better day to try and get a few more photographs before the site is totally demolished and cleared, although indications are that there are no immediate plans for any re-development, so let's wait for a suitable day with some winter sun and I will pay the site another visit.
